Anticipating...

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," the film. Based on the trailer, studio (Touchstone) and release date (April 29), this could be trouble. The marketing campaign seems to have this set up as Monty Python meets Men in Black. I don't know a lot of details, e.g. whether this is just the first book (probably, with sequels in mind) or some futile attempt to squeeze the whole 5 (6? whatever) book "trilogy" into 2 hours. Sam Rockwell as Zaphod could be interesting. I'm not sure Arthur Dent looks dweebish enough, based on the traile. For all its limitations, the British TV series did capture a good deal of the spirit of the thing, and has to be considered a legitimate part of the polymorphous multi-media extravaganza it's become. I hope the movie will at least live up to that status.
