Listening to...

Mommy and Daddy. This is what the White Stripes might have turned into if Jack White had grown up listening to Suicide and Soft Cell instead of Leadbelly and Howlin' Wolf. They certainly have the mythology and stage show to be the Next Big Thing. I saw them at the Khyber on a wet Thursday night with about 15 people in the room, and they (especially "Daddy") were live wires on the stage. It didn't seem like they had an act; they just jumped up there, turned on their sequencer, and started bouncing off the walls. Their enthusiasm was pretty infectious (OK, the cheap Yards on tap helped too). Their tunes are a little bit raw for the top of the pops, but they have the rest of the package.
