Censorship of their songs during the Super Bowl halftime show was "absolutely ridiculous and completely unnecessary," the Rolling Stones said through a spokeswoman on Tuesday. On the scale of things that could go, and have gone, wrong at a Rolling Stones performance, this was pretty mild.
Today I was in a store and the classic rock station they had on was playing "American Pie," right when Mr. Righteous Quasi-Hippie yelps, "And as I watched him on the stage, my hands were clenched in fists of rage." I wonder if some enterprising young musician out there is composing an epic folk song about the Stones' Super Bowl performance. Probably not.
