The Phillies signed Karim Garcia as a reserve outfielder. Bringing in a journeyman Garcia as a reserve certainly worked out for the Eagles, so who knows? The Phillies have doubled up by landing not only Karim Garcia but Freddy Garcia, too. Jesse Garcia is still looking for work.
Karim Garcia was a hot prospect for the Dodgers a dozen years ago, but his career never really worked out. His last few years in the majors, he was a fat load. Since then, he's gone to Japan and Mexico and supposedly slimmed down.
This isn't a bad signing as these things go. It's only a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training, and there can't be much money involved. The thing is, again, this is only worth doing if the Phillies plan to be competitive this year. They continue to send mixed signals on that front.
Stop The War.
