October Sky. There was an OK movie buried in here somewhere, but it was mostly overwhelmed by Hollywood melodrama and mawkishness. The WV coal town setting, and the presence of Chris Cooper, lead to inevitable comparisons to Matewan, which are not flattering to this movie. The 4 hick kids in the 1950s walking down the railroad tracks brings to mind Stand By Me, another far superior movie. (On the other hand, at least this one didn't have the kid turn into Richard Dreyfuss, or include any gee-whiz voiceover narration.)
The wife says the title is an anagram for Rocket Boys, which was the name of the book upon which this is based. I think it would have been a better title.
