PaCleanSweep's founder declares for governor
Russ Diamond of Annville, the founder of PaCleanSweep, will run for governor as an independent. As a third-party candidate, Diamond has his work cut out for him to appear on the November ballot alongside Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell and Republican candidate Lynn Swann. To get on the ballot, Diamond needs to collect 67,070 voters' signatures by August.
In principle, I'm all for alternative candidates. But if they have zero chance of winning, all they're going to do is throw the real contest out of whack. After all, those Nader supporters sure got a lot of mileage out of their protest votes back in 2000, didn't they?
