Laughing...

at the unintentional humor on this list of the top 50 conservative rock songs (sic), which somehow merits coverage in the New York Times. (Man, they'll print anything these days.) Won't Get Fooled Again, indeed! I notice that Peace, Love and Understanding isn't on the list. Nor is Iggy Pop's custom-made anthem, I'm A Conservative. Or for that matter, No Fun. That's the first thing that comes to mind when I think of the conservative movement (sic). I'm looking for one new value, but nothing comes my way.

Raw Power, anyone?

I think they missed a few:

Lawyers, Guns, and Money - Warren Zevon
The song of mercenaries and war profiteers everywhere. It always makes me think of Duke Doonesbury.

Rock the Casbah- The Clash
Killing an Arab - The Cure (I know, I know, Camus, The Stranger, disclaimer stickers on Standing on a Beach/Staring at the Sea, I know...but they probably don't)
Pretty much sums up their foreign policy strategies.

I Can't Drive 55 - Sammy Hagar
When they're not bashing liberals or raping the environment or invading other countries, Conservatives love to ignore the 55 mph speed limit and curse out Jimmy Carter, who they claim signed it into law in 1974. (Hey, history is bunk, right? And facts can be used to prove anything.)

Some Like It Hot- The Power Station
"Global warming? What 'Global Warming'? It's all a myth. Not happening. And we had nothing to do with it, so there's no point in changing what we're doing. Besides, people pay good money to visit the tropics each year. Now they don't have to travel so far!"
