Watching: 25th Hour

Spike Lee has always paid close attention to the music in his movies, with some memorable results. One of the best was the club scene in 25th Hour. It's a little masterpiece of not only music, but editing, lighting and acting. Viewed standing alone, it plays a bit more as a light comedy than it does in the context of the larger movie. It works as a self-contained story that wraps up a minor plot thread between two of the secondary characters. Great stuff:



Yes, it's another Philip Seymour Hoffman sex scene. Well, almost. If not exactly sex, still more amorous activity than I want to see from him, anyway.

The movie was pretty good. I like almost anything where Edward Norton gets beaten to a pulp.
